I Think I've Forgotten Something....

"Spring won't let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again."
~ Gustav Mahler

Picture
I think I've forgotten something. Forgotten what the sun beating down on your back feels like. Forgotten what chirps from birds sound like. And Forgotten the smoky taste of burgers on warm Saturday nights. I can't remember the last time I actually cracked out shirts and a T-shirt, but today, those distant memories, became realities. For once, 60 degrees actually felt like chilling on the surface of the sun. Where the snowmen lay only about a month ago, now daffodils are sprouting from the still damp mulch. It's almost as if the moods of all New Englanders changed in a matter of only one day. With the proof that the sun and warmth actually exist, many of the frowns were flipped upside down into smiles brighter than the sun shining from the sky. Although spring has arrived only about three weeks late, many people will excuse it's tardiness, and are just happy that it has finally arrived.

Only one more week! Although it is hard to believe with all the snow on the ground, spring break is just around the corner. Spring break is where boots turn to sandals and pants turn to bathing suits. It is a time where snow turns into sand, and where skin goes from dull to burnt. Looking forward to spring break brings exciting feelings. Feelings of being to untuck your shirt and just relax. Spring break won't ever get old.

Today, winter finally hit me. After a long winter of endless amounts of snow, it is fair to say that the winter has finally beaten me. I never thought I would say this, but I am sick of the snow. Something that was once so special and rare, has become a normal occurrence. I am sick of it. I want the sun to come back, to be able to walk outside with shorts and sandals. Sadly, I think that we are stuck in an endless patch of winter.

I thought that I had tasted it all, but I was wrong. By far the best thing that I have eaten this year is Mrs. Wards tasty cookie treats. I really don't know what it is, but the chocolate blends so well with the rich cookie dough. I want to ask Mrs. Ward what he secret recipe to delicious is, but then it wouldn't be a surprise. I guess I'll just have to settle with just munching on them on Friday, hey but that's not too bad.

Everyday, a majority of the seniors have to make a treacherous run for their lives just to stay dry to the farmhouse. Even though they are your friends, they're never gonna pass up on a chance to shove you into the frigid snow. So as I make my way over to the farmhouse, I must look over my right shoulder, then over my left. Almost everyday, someone bites the dust, and all I want to be is the person who doesn't.

No homework? yeah, you heard me, no homework. Having no homework feels like a  prayer that almost never comes true. But tonight is just one of those rare nights. It feels as if the cuffs have been freed off my wrists, and I have been given an opportunity to just be free. Every night, I am used to just getting home and doing homework, but not tonight. Tonight I think I'll go home, and instead of picking up a pencil, I'll pick up a pillow, and rest. Maybe even fall into a deep sleep, and hopefully dream about more nights like this one.

A new month, but the same old weather. March usually resembles the month that starts to show us the spring still is coming, but right now, it's the complete opposite. The snow is still coming down, the wind is still whipping, and the sun is still hidden behind those thick sheet of clouds. March is still feeling like the middle of January. I guess we will just have to wait until April.

For the first time, I think it feels a little bit like summer. I have not seen the sun shine as bright all winter. I feel as if I am sitting in a beach chair in the middle of the summer at the beach. That's how bright it is right now. That gives me a sad memory though. It's not summer, it still winter. The sun is not reflecting off of the glistening blue water, it's reflecting off of the cold wet snow. Just another indication, we are still stuck in this winter rut.

There are hundreds of reasons to be happy on Friday. Some people are happy because it is the start of the weekend, some love that it means a night of no homework, and some people just love it just because its Friday. But, to me, the reason why I love Friday so much is because of one thing, Fenn Flames. To all of us flamers, it's more than just playing indoor soccer, it's what we call a lifestyle. I would be lying if I said we actually are playing soccer. It's more of just a goof off show that provides more laughs than I can count. Out of all the reasons to love Friday, this is my favorite.
